Down in studio by the end of the month

published on October 5, 2011 by NanoRoux
Kirk Windstein, guitarist of Down, said the band would enter the studio at the end of the month. However, it will not be in order to write an album !
Indeed, the band will instead record four EPs, each with a different aspect: one rather heavy, another inclined to doom, etc..

The guitarist has justified this approach by explaining that today, no one wants to spend that much money in a CD as it's too expensive, and everyone prefers to download it for free. However, as an EP is cheaper than a CD, the guitarist hopes this will motivate the public to buy the EPs and not to download them !

Reminder:
As former bassist Rex Brown is no longer in the band, Patrick Bruderer (Crowbar) is now Down's bassist.

And you, what do you think about this strategy ?

Fleshgod Apocalypse reveal new album "Agony" cover art

published on June 24, 2011 by Zandra
Italian brutal/symphonic death metallers Fleshgod Apocalypse have revealed the cover artwork for their new album "Agony".
The band comments : “The album cover is about the eternal struggle of mankind; we’re condemned to live facing our evil side, which dwells in every one of us. Mastodon reveals new album title

published on June 10, 2011 by Zandra
Progressive metallers Mastodon have revealed the title for their new effort : "The Hunter". The album was recorded at Doppler Studios in Atlanta with producer Mike Elizondo. In a recent interview, drummer Brann Dailor described the new album as "a little faster, heavier, crazier… It's all over the place."
Guitarist Bill Kelliher added : "It's a good representation of where we are. There's no 15-minute epic songs on there, but there's a lot of short bursts of energy going on."
We recorded, like, 15 or 16 songs. In a week we did all the drums and we spent the next two and a half, three weeks doing all the guitars and vocals. We did it pretty fast and it sounds great.
