What a surprise! After only 10 months I did not expect to see on the
In Flames website a new date for Montreal in this early September!
I couldn't miss that...
Moreover, this time,
In Flames is comming with the American band
Killswitch Engage on a "co-headline" tour...
Once arrived at the Cepsum, my first mission is to find
In Flames' tour manager to find Peters Iwers, bass player of the band, for an interview, that will be soon here on Metalship!
After that, it was time to go back in front of the stage, when Protest The Hero is starting a very powerful set...
Unfortunately, I will not be able to tell you anything about
Between The Buried And Me, as we were interviewing Peter while they were playing...
Killswitch Engage
Time for me to go to the photo-pit, right before the beginning of
Killswitch Engage...
The stage is set in a weird way; two massive stairs on each side, and a huge other scene on the top. The massive curtain at the back makes the audience scream for the band...
Eventually,
Killswitch Engage shows up, more nervous than ever.
The band will give us an impressive performance, heavy and full of energy. Adam, guitar player, dressed as a super-hero will show us how funny he really is, with some ridiculous jokes that will piss me (and probably a few people in the audience) off...
Howard Jone will show us how talented he is. His vocals are amazing...
Killswitch Engage will play some songs of their last album, but also some classics, like the enormous Rose Of Sharyn!
Amazing wall of death, but less violent that the one that I saw a few months ago during
Lamb Of God's set...
After a pretty short set,
Killswitch Engage leaves the stage for the main band of the night :
In Flames.
The Mirror's Truth
Once more, going back in the photo-pit, intensly nervous to see
In Flames THIS close... couldn't wait for the show to begin...
Lights are off, and Daniel comes in first and swedish flag appears on the front row...
In Flames starts with Cloud Connected, aka THE song that everybody in here knows. Then, playing Embody The Invisible for those who are still into the "old In Flames"...
The band gives us a various set, but no real surprises, except maybe Square Nothing, amazing song and crazy atmosphere in the venue...
We will also get some songs from
A Sense Of Purpose, but here again, no surprises because the only songs that will be played are those from the singles... Alias, The Mirror's Truth and so on...
The main problem tonight is the light : lights BEHIND the band is clearly NOT A GOOD IDEA! 90% of the time, we couldn't even see the guys... it was really annoying...
It was a real pleasure to hear Touch Of Red, song that I absolutely like, and of course, one of my favourite, The Quiet Place...and then...
Then... the band just stopped after the violent Take This Life...
They just stopped there, they didn't even play Encore... skipping Come Clarity and My Sweet Shadow (again!)
It was definetly TOO short, a small hour... and that's it. It wasn't because the band wasn't in good shape or whatever, but I believe that the "co-headlining" organisation of this tour is unfortunately just set for those who like the TWO bands only... If you are a real fan of either
Killswitch Engage or
In Flames, then this tour might be a deception...
