Bloodshot Dawn and Deals Death, two promising European bands are ending their very first Japanese tour on this Sunday evening, before taking off back home on the following day, and after a grueling week playing all over the country. They were accompanied by some local bands among which are their partners in crime for the night: Hemorrhoid Carnage, Ogre and Serenity in Murder.
It's the first time in the land of the Rising Sun for our two bands and first time in front of the camera as well as they both answered a couple of questions for Metalship in their first video interview (view Bloodshot Dawn interview here and Deals Death interview there).
The conclusion of Bloodshot Dawn and Deals Death Japan tour will be drawn at Shibuya Cyclone, an underground place on the literal and metaphorical level and which, albeit cramped, fits perfectly the extravaganza to come.

Hemorrhoid Carnage

The party gets started with Hemorrhoid Carnage, a punchy Death Metal band. Although their set was a bit on the short side –around 20 minutes- they brilliantly managed to pull off the never easy task of warming up the crowd. With their well-executed soli and catchy rhythms they set the tone of the evening, unfortunately –for them- in front of a still scattered audience.

Ogre

Following up is a brief quiet moment soon to be torn apart by Ogre’s very aggressive sound. Among tonight’s young bands, Ogre is quite the veteran: founded in 1994 by only remaining original member Sayaki, Ogre has already released three LPs. Ogre mixes up thrash metal, melodic samples in the intros with some epic keyboard pieces and a warlike imagery – with cartridge belts and so on- bordering Satanism. Indeed, they had a sidekick dressed up as a devil in top hat –with some pretty awesome make up- marching the stage with a cut off head and a blade. With their Slayer likeness –incidentally the lead vocal also plays the bass- the guys from Ogre heated the place further up.

Serenity in Murder

Then Serenity in Murder, one of the key organizers of the tour, invades the stage, on which its 6 members barely fit in. In spite of their youth and lack of experience – the band was formed in 2009 and published one LP in 2011- the Tokyo’s Serenity in Murder let us hear some jaw dropping symphonic death metal and displayed astonishing mastery and musical maturity. Some simple but beautiful samples and melodies from the keyboard add an epic flavor to the songs. The two guitarists dish out soli as you would recite the alphabet, while the lead vocals are handled by a frail young lady who growls like an Angela Gossow.

I knew those guys were good and have been wishing to see them live but I was far from thinking I would receive this huge –although very pleasant- slap on the face.

Serenity in Murder’s Tracklist:
1. The first Frisson
2. Requiem
3. The Tragedy
4. Nocturnum
5. Defender (Blood)
6. Infact Bellum
7. In Hell

Bloodshot Dawn

After a short break, the Englishmen from Bloodshot Dawn and their Death/Thrash metal, made of one third melodies, one third technicality, three thirds brutality, burst on the stage. Founded in 2003, the band really started kicking off in 2009 (see interview) and released their first eponymous LP in January this year, once again very mature. Ben, the main guitarist reaches high grounds with his great display of technicity and mastery of his 7 strings guitar, offering us several virtuosic flights of notes even within the riffs. Josh, the leader and vocalist strikes us with his sepulchral voice, while also playing rhythm guitar.
An awesome set, that amply delighted the crowd !

Deals Death

Time for the night’s final and main event: the Swedes from Deals Death. Yet another young and talented band with a short but dense history: already two LPs since the creation of the band in 2008. While their melodic Death Metal may seem very classic at first glance, Deals Death managed to find the right sound in this genre done to death –no pun intended- and rapidly forged its reputation.

Tonight, they displayed a complete mastery over their performance, with some strong interaction with the public - made easy by the lack of space between the stage and the crowd. Thus we see Olle, the hefty lead singer, shaking hands with the male fans and offering the rest of his body to please the female crowd.
With the stage already bending under the weight of the 5 vikings, Bloodshot Dawn’s very own Josh adds 198 pounds of crazy to the mix and joins for a couple of songs.

The night ends with the gathering of all the bands playing tonight for a final and messy picture on stage and with the fans to immortalize a very pleasant evening with such promising bands.

Deals Death Tracklist :
1. Collapse
2. Eradicated
3. Fearless
4. Truthful profession
5. Fallen World
6. Conquer as One
7. Perfection
8. Elite
9. Fortified
(encore)
10. Internal Demons
