Bethroned - Clash of Pride (Album)

Epic and Cold... A Desolation

This article has not been written by an official member of the Metalship team, so it is relevant only by his writer, and not by the webzine redaction.

This album intrigued me for other editions of this one-man band. I must admit, they didn't impressed me as this album.

Let's start first with the negative sides of this album. The only downside that bothered me a bit is that in some moments snare drumm is comming behind keyboards and guitars, but I understand because what epic stuff created by Bethroned is something that little bands can achieve. From first to last song, everything is full of good riff and "passionate" keyboards. This is the only minus to this album, on some songs snare was supposed to be louder.

Since I used to describe a song by song, I'll do it now.
Let's start, introductory song Clash of Pride ... Begins with the choir, which lasts until 0:40 minutes wwhen comes in line clean guitar. Then came a devastating riff that immediately struck you in the head ... Too bad it did not last longer, but still, this is only instrumental.
... He is Fading Away ... Begins as it should continue Clash of Pride, bombastically, energetic, simply, excellent! Keyboards are there to make their devastatition and with strange (but good vocals) this song iimmediately hit my ears! Really good song ...
My Punishment ... Here is the best songs from this album ... The song starts with thunder and rain - depression. Riffs are so magical, creating an atmosphere that I didn't heard from Dimmu Borgir's Stormblåst. One of the best songs I've heard lately ... And lyrics are also so depressed, talking about lost love, feelings ... Really unusual for black metal. Slowly, riffs are repeated one after the other until you reach the climax 2:54 and 5:28 minutes. Excellent song, really perfect!
For my Fallen Brothers ... really great song, here we see that Vargoth can sing clean vocals and showed that he knows to do that very well.
Whore of Vatican ... A little strange name, I thought that this was an unnecessary song, but after 2:30 minutes comes very atmospheric part in the style of early Dissection.
And there my soul will Rest in Peace ... the instrumental thing, and since I am just prone to instrumentalls alI I can say that it fits fine to the atmosphere of the album.
The Legion ... is another great song, starts strongly, then in the middle of the song came acoustic guitar part and ... Excellently done ... The song was done in stop-go pace and is very listenable, besides My Punishment is the second best tsong on the album ...
I am the Wooden Doors ... the cover of the cult band Agalloch is done the same as the original, except clean vocals, the singer has done clean vocals mixed with growl, which really does not sound bad!

Finally, I must say that this is one of the best albums that came out this year and you should buy it. If you want to support the quality band that really showed ther skills on this album, then do it ... You will not be disappointed, like I wasn't.
