Grindcore is a very profound taste, as it really just sounds like a man going through a blender and then having his remains incinerated in a fire. Thankfully Wormrot’s new album Dirge isn’t a letdown and we can expect all the death like carnage and
mayhem on a larger scale. With 25 songs that only clock in at around 17 minutes all together. Wormrot like to hit hard, fast and brutal, and with this only being album number two for the young Singapore band, you can’t help but listen with your mouth wide open thinking. ‘Holy Shit, how good are these guys’.
Dirge contains some of the wackiest and most insane song titles on an album you will have ever seen! With crushingly heavy tracks like: ‘Semiconscious Godsize Dumbass’, ‘Fucking Fierce so what’ and ‘Principle of Puppet warfare’ you will be banging your head without stopping for the whole 17 minutes album, giving off the occasional pig grunt and fist pump as the mish mash of noise and terror rages on through your earphones. Can we blame them for wanting to be so absurd? But one thing’s for sure, absurd and crazy is the way forward for Wormrot and every single song on this album is ear drum bursting brilliant.
Every song on Dirge fits together like clockwork moving from one brutal blast beat to another without any halt in the charging ferocity, making it sometime hard to tell when a new song has started. It’s really good to hear that a band can stay on track and play to their strengths instead of trying something new. Wormrot’s style is Grindcore and Grindcore they play brilliantly. With tinny sounding guitars, insane blast beating, growling vocals and a opportunity to bang your head ten times more than any album currently out there, Wormrot manage to release one of the best Grindcore albums ever, putting the likes of
Napalm Death and Jungle Rot to shame!
What is so ridiculous about this album is that there is a four and a five second track on Dirge.
Yes, I know..... That short. Usually a track under a minute doesn’t capture the musicianship of a band let alone a song less than ten seconds. Quite oddly, there is so much going on in those five seconds it feels like your life is flashing before your eyes. It’s so scary to listen to and will make you shit your pants and the guys next to your pants.
You have got to admire a band that sound like they are clashing some bins together and Wormrot make the noise sound...... Well, tuneful! This is only album number two, but Dirge will leave you craving another plate full of WORMROT!
